Riot Roundup: Cool Local Shit Going On This Week 8/31 – 9/6

“I’m just trying to get some laughs and sell some drinks.”

Riot Roundup is a weekly feature detailing fun upcoming events in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. Have an event that you want mentioned in a future column? Drop us an email and let us know!

Monday 8/31

The Troc’s Movie Monday comes, sees and kicks ass with the 1984 classic Ghostbusters. As always $3 gets you in and goes towards a snack or drink, and the event is 21 and over. Check out their site for more info.

Tuesday 9/1

Philly’s aspiring comics, or those just wanting to hear fresh voices on the rise, take note, Tuesday sees the return of Helium Comedy Club’s Open Mic Extravaganza! Check out their site for more info.

Wednesday 9/2

The Barbary’s Pretty Hate Machine 80’s/EDM/Darkwave night crawls back up from its (head like a) hole on both Wednesday and Thursday this week. Check out their site for more info.

Thursday 9/3

George Miller’s instant classic follow up to his beloved late 70’s/early 80’s Road Warrior trilogy, Mad Max Fury Road, assaults the Troc at a special Movie Thursday event. As always $3 gets you in and goes towards a snack or drink, and the event is 21 and over. Check out their site for more info.

Friday 9/4

Not quite Philly, but the historical and beautiful Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, PA shows horror classics on the first Friday of every month in their true 35mm glory. This Friday? The awesomely nihilistic and paranoid 70’s remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Check out their site for more info.

Saturday 9/5

Raunch comedy genius and legend Dave Attell, last seen being the funniest thing in the admittedly very funny summer comedy blockbuster Trainwreck, returns to the area this week at Helium Comedy Club. Dave hits the stage on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and tickets are still available for several of the performances but don’t miss out, these shows are sure to be well attended. Check out their site for tickets and more info.

Sunday 9/6

Radio 104.5 presents Emo heroes Death Cab for Cutie at the TLA on Sunday Night. The show is sold out but don’t get too sad about it, there’s always StubHub, just be careful not to follow a scalper into the dark.
