Visionary director Zev Deans, whose work we previously enjoyed on Behemoth’s Messe Noire, is back with an art deco silent film nightmare chronicling the secret origins of our favorite satanic pope. In a technologically advanced (but secretly evil, of course) turn-of-the-century Metropolis not unlike Bioshock’s Rapture (except, y’know, not underwater), Papa is gifted with incredible abilities but disagrees with the corruption of his so-called benefactors, casting himself from the heavens to the ground. In death, his “ghost” brings the power of the twisted hierarchy to the open arms of society. You will believe a Papa Emeritus can fly.
Ghost’s newest record Meliora debuted at #1 pretty much everywhere around the world except here, because we suck, and they’re still scheduled to play a sold out Union Transfer on 9/29, unless the real Pope chooses to ruin it again, which is entirely possible. Go America.
