Just a little over 2 years ago I had the good fortune of going to the Philly MOCA, 531 N 12th Street, to see a Quentin Tarantino themed burlesque show presented by a local and fabulous talent, Liberty Rose and her company Broad Street Burlesque. It was insane!! The costumes, routines, host, gogo girl, all of it was nothing short of fantastic! From Wes Anderson to Archer, Liberty Rose’s Sexploitation Follies gives old school burlesque a modern twist with just the right amount of camp and kitsch that gives it a little Vaudeville style and flare. The troupe has been successful bringing pop culture parodies in all their scantalizing glory to the stage and their next show, The Farce Awakens:A Burlesque Tribute to Star Wars, should prove to be the most entertaining and tantalizing event to tie in with one the most highly anticipated movie premieres of our time.
This Friday, Liberty Rose is taking the art of strip tease to a galaxy far, far away! This scifi satire, is sure to follow their grand tradition of tongue in cheek sexiness done in costumes that are so on point, you’d think you’d just entered your local comic book convention. Having nailed it with Katya during the Archer Burlesque, C3PO should be yet another interesting and sexy take on a lovable yet annoying droid. All the classic characters are being represented from Boba Fett to Lando Calrissian, complete with a Lightsaber Duel/Striptease. Hokey religions and ancient weapons will be no match for a good pastie by your side on this night. This is a fanboy/fangirl’s fantasy come to life! The Philly MOCA is a unique venue, just right for Liberty Rose and her cast of charismatic cosplayers. It’s just small enough for the perfect amount of intimacy and feels like you scored an invite to a secret society, where only the coolest (self-proclaimed, of course) of geeks get to see their wet Jedi and Sith dreams come to life! Boasting a Storm Trooper chorus line as well as prizes and raffles from local comic haven, Atomic City Comics, this show is one you will not want to miss!
Unlike Star Wars, which is working on becoming 9 episodes deep, this Farce will only last for 2 shows! This Friday, December 11th at 7pm and again at 10pm. Tickets are $17 in advance and $22 at the door for GA or you can go Galactic Empire style and score a VIP ticket that gets you reserved front row seating, a limited edition door prize and a signed poster for just $27 in advance or $30 at the door.
