Preview: Converge – I Can Tell You About Pain

Aggressive music institution strike hard and fast on upcoming 7”

Fresh off of dual side project masterpieces (mouthpiece/mastermind Jacob Bannon’s Wear Your Wounds and arch skinsman Ben Koller’s third Mutoid Man release War Moans) the mighty Converge reconvenes in full to offer its first all new recordings since 2012’s “All We Love We Leave Behind”.

“I Can Tell You About Pain” is vintage Converge in the best way possible, equal parts crushing and catchy, with guitarist’s Kurt Ballou’s innovative and acerbic axe abuse at the forefront and Nate Newton’s rumbling low end a constant threat at the song’s heels. Add a torture chamber of feedback and crunch laden pit ready breakdown at the end and you have another instant Converge classic, with an eye catching, Tony Wolski directed video that is equal parts Fincher and Lynch. B side “Eve” slows the pace to a crawl with a doomy sludge stomp that stands proudly alongside Converge essentials like “Plagues” from “No Heroes” and the “Jane Doe” title track.

The “I Can Tell You About Pain / Eve” 7” drops in August ahead of a highly anticipated new LP reported to be due this fall, with pre-orders available here.

Converge will be here in Philly with Neurosis and Amenra at Union transfer on August 7th. Visit us on Facebook for a chance to win two passes to the show!
