Luminist returns with charming animated short “Jumpy”

“He loves to jump!”

I first fell in love with the work of UK Composer Luminist when I discovered their brilliant analog synth reimagining of the classic Metroid soundtrack, now the transcending chiptune / synthwave alchemist returns with the score and sound design of filmmaker Anthony Falleroni’s retro platforming inspired short film “Jumpy”.

Luminist’s melancholy tones perfectly accompany the unknown plight of a hapless side scrolling protagonist, living out each “life” failing at the same supposedly bright and colorful tasks, the “reset” button their only respite from the inevitable doom of “game over”. Luminist also recently dropped (along with the info that their highly anticipated reimagining of Super Metroid (!) is on the way) a brand new original track called “Exhale”, in the same brilliantly shoegaze-y, subdued and contemplative vein as their work on “Jumpy”.

Check out Anthony Falleroni’s full Jumpy short and making-of video, and follow Luminist on Bandcamp and YouTube.
