The cultural phenomenon, Star Wars , is back with it’s latest installment; Star Wars: The Last Jedi on December 15. The beloved franchise has the whole world excited for the new feature film. Our city of Brotherly Love is especially excited, with multiple Star Wars themed events taken place in the weeks leading to the film’s debut. To help you schedule your life around Star Wars (because is there any other way live), I’m sharing with you some of the events happening around the city!
G33kamania’s annual Star Wars Costumed Dance Party is returning and with a some royal flair. Rebel Princess is the theme for the 3rd annual Star Wars Costumed Dance Party at The Barbary from 10:00p.m.-2:00p.m. Philly’s chosen one, Mega Ran will be in attendance. There will be 2 floor & 2 DJs spinning retro classics from the 70s, 80s and beyond! You must be 21 to attend, so no padawans allowed. There is a $10 cover but $8 if you’re in costume.
Relive the magic of The Force Awakens with the TLA’s, Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trivia, Movie Screening & More! Show off your Star Wars knowledge during the trivia at 6:30p.m. and then enjoy a screening of the film at 8:30p.m. There will be drinks specials through out the night. Plus, 2 burlesque performances during intermission. The perfect pre-game before seeing The Last Jedi.
There are many events happening on Star Wars Eve across the city. Local bar, The Institute, is hosting a Star Wars The Last Jedi Movie Release Party from 4:00-10:00p.m. The release party will have food, drinks, and the classic films playing on a large projection screen. At 9:30p.m. they will give the first 25 guests that attended tickets to a late night screening of the Last Jedi.
If you attend Riot Nerd’s Black Christmas Craft Bazaar and donate a toy to the toy drive; you’ll be entered into a raffle with a prize valued at over $75. This includes tickets to The Institute’s screening of the Last Jedi.
G33kamania is hosting another Star Wars themed event; this time its the Star Wars South Street Bar Crawl. Stop by 7 local businesses on South Street starting at The Boyler at 5:00p.m. The force will be with you as you try Star Wars themed cocktails, snacks, a costume contest and the classic Star Wars Christmas Special.
Looking for advanced screenings? The Philadelphia Film Society is hosting two at 7:00p.m. & 10:00p.m. at the Prince Theater. Prior to the 7:00p.m. screening, attendees can enjoy the PFS Cantina. There will be music by Wookiedelphia, a signature drink and a few of your favorite bad guys to snag a picture with.
The Franklin Institute will also have advanced screenings at 7:00p.m. & 10:00p.m.
If you can’t attend The Philadelphia Film Society’s advanced screening, consider attending their Star Wars Trivia & Last Jedi Screening. This event is at the Prince Theater and is open to Star Wars fans of all ages. However, you must be 21 with I.D. to purchase a drink at the PFS Cantina. The trivia starts at 7:00p.m. so try to get there early. The winner get’s Han Solo like bragging rights and prizes. Guests are encouraged to come in costume and take part in the costume parade. The parade takes place before the trivia.
To top off the Star Wars events is Riot Nerd’s Star Wars Brunch & Bazaar at Buzz Cafe Philly from 10:00a.m.-2:00p.m. Chat with family and friends about Star Wars as you enjoy delicious brunch foods and drinks. Then checkout the bazaar that will have 10 local vendors to shop from. The OG droid, R2-D2 will be present for fans to take pictures with. Boba Fett will be collecting toys that will go to Jane Addams Place.
